Retro PSA For Forest Fire Prevention

During last week's game of Tuesday Trivia, I had a question asking people to tell me the character that a red-headed actress was best known for playing. There were several guesses, one of which was Joanna Cassidy (above). This caused me to look up Joanna on Wikipedia, where I found out about this 1973 public service announcement that she did advising people to be careful in the forest. The ending is a little creepy, but it makes a strong point.

Retro PSA: Holy Bra Burning Batman!!

Watching the movie Batman Begins last night had me thinking about the campy 1960s TV version that had me glued to the set as a kid during the 1970s. Back then, I took the good guy's strait-laced earnestness and William Dozier's overdramatic narration so seriously. When I watched the series as an adult, I found it to be one of the funniest shows on TV.

My memories of the series led me to pay a visit to Cyber Crack (aka You Tube) and see if someone had uploaded again a public service announcement from 1972 featuring Batman, Robin, and Batgirl (it was up before, but was taken down). I was pleasantly surprised to see that the PSA was up again. Centered around the Federal Equal Pay Law, the PSA has Batgirl pondering whether or not she should rescue The Dynamic Duo from certain peril. Word of advice Batman: don't tell Batgirl to shut up and go fix you a turkey pot pie!

Although Burt Ward and Yvonne Craig reprise their roles as Robin and Batgirl from the series, Dick Gautier stood in for Adam West as The Caped Crusader. Apparently, West was trying to distance himself from Batman. As he got older, I think he realized that wasn't going to work and decided to milk his image for all it was worth. Why not? It worked for Shatner.

Retro PSA: This Is Your Brain On Drugs

Because destruction can be an attention grabber, I am featuring the memorable "This Is Your Brain On Drugs" public service announcement from 1998. Starring actress Rachel Leigh Cook (She's All That and Josie & the Pussycats), the PSA was selected by TV Guide as one of the 100 greatest television advertisements ever. For those who had plans to go all Trainspotting and ride the "white horse", I hope that the sight of Rachel Leigh using a skillet on a dairy product and various kitchen items to point out the dangers of heroin made an impression. The only problem is that after watching the commercial just now, I have a jones for an omelette... but I am out of eggs! Damn it!
