What?! I can ONLY pick one?! Oh, the pain, the pain . . . (smile) Okay, even though I'm torn between Thieves in the Temple and Let's Go Crazy, I'm gonna go with (insert drum-roll here) . . . LET'S GO CRAZY! Whew, glad that's over with (LOL).
Barbara: Sorry to hear about the problems you had making multiple selections. I just tried it and it allowed me to select more than one. If you are still having problems, let me know.
By the way, I'm glad I was able to supply you with a little eye candy.
The Rock Chick: I was just telling one of my carpool partners that "Raspberry Beret" isn't one of my fave Prince songs... he said it's his favorite, lol. Since it only peaked at #2, it wasn't included in the poll. Otherwise, my personal preferences aside, it would have made the cut.
X. Dell: I'm curious... what would make up your Prince Top 5?
Lori: Although I mentioned in the post that people can make multiple selections, I should have worded the poll question differently... my fault. If you haven't already, feel free to go back to the poll and show your love for Thieves In the Temple.
Lori: Just so you don't schedule an eye appt or anything, I wanted to let you know that I changed the message to red after I reading your initial comments. :-)
Will you please post the real names, addresses and phone numbers of the people that voted for "when doves cry". I need to take care of some business with them.
Yea Raspberry Beret should have been on there.A couple more that I like is "gotta stop messin' around" and the long version of "let's work".To me his "B" sides were better. don't forget Madhouse 8 and 16 his side projects.
I never got into Prince - I think I was going through my Big Band/Swing phase when he was topping the charts - but I always loved his branding, "Prince, the artist formerly known as. . ." - it just tickled me for some reason. Because I'm a pop culture artist who's reinvented myself under my brand I often use my own version it to sign off sometimes for fun:
i agree with just about everyone else. it's almost impossible to pick just one favorite prince song. if i had no choice but to choice one song, i would have to go with 'when doves cry.'
Dr. Zibbs: You are going to be quite busy taking care of those who voted for "When Doves Cry" because it has a sizable lead.
Mistress of the D: Raspberry Beret peaked at #2 on both the pop and R&B charts. Although I liked his remake of Betcha My Golly Wow, on the one hand I was a bit disappointed because up until then, Prince didn't record other people's songs.
Bridget Jones: If you haven't, you should check out Prince' orig. version of When You Were Mine. Also, thanks for the heads up on your new blog address.
Kid: Although I wouldn't turn it off if it came on the radio, Raspberry Beret isn't one of my favorite Prince tunes. Having said that, if it was a #1, I would've included it.
In my opinion, Prince is right up there with The Beatles when it comes to the quality of B-sides. He also had some strong album cuts that don't get alot of airplay anymore (for example, "International Lover" and "Lady Cabdriver" off the 1999 album).
X. Dell: Thanks for answering my question. Out of the ones you selected, the only one that might make my list would be "Erotic City".
Pop Art Diva: Now that you are out of your big band/swing phase, you should give Prince a listen.
Shannon: Cool, somebody else who likes Batdance. Even though it was a #1 hit, it seems to be one of his tunes that isn't highly regarded.
Don: You are preaching to the choir my man. When I set up this poll, I knew I had to make it so voters could select more than one song. I hope that you took the opportunity to vote more than once. Thanks for stopping by.

It only let me vote for one....which was very difficult.
I loved opening your blog today and coming face to face with Prince!
Well, it says the polls arent available, but when they are, I have to say "When Doves Cry". Love that song!
Although, I must admit that "Raspberry Beret" is my actual fave Prince song, but it's not on the list :)
Odd. None of those would make the list of my top-five favorite Prince songs.

Oh, my apologies. I was so busy boo-hooing, I totally missed your message in red. Good deal! (smile)

Raspberry Beret wasn't a number one?
~sigh~
Another favorite of mine was his cover of Betcha By Golly Wow.
I liked Raspberry Beret too, but also Purple Rain and Red Corvette.
His writing, performed by other singers, is great too (e.g. when u were mine)
p.s. I moved. Now called fireflies in the tall grass http://firefly376.vox.com

"Annie Christian"
"Erotic City"
"You Sexy M-F"
"Purple Rain"
"Little Red Corvette"
Maybe I'd sneak in "1999," somewhere, say as a tie for fifth.

I voted for three :) "Batdance", "When Doves Cry" and "Let's Go Crazy".
