Oh here we go with the old "disco ain't rock and roll" mantra. Donna Summer deserves to be in the Hall and so does ABBA, Darlene Love, The Chantels, and KISS definitely. I feel LL Cool J, the Red Hot Chili Peppers although deserving should wait.
Candy: I think the RHCP have the best shot of getting inducted. No matter how it goes, I think the 2010 class will be a good one.
Penny: I think Darlene Love is one of the more underrated artists of the rock era. For those who only know her as Danny Glover's wife in the "Lethal Weapon" movies, they need to check out some of her recordings.
Candy and Penny: Can you recast your votes when you get a chance? Because I forgot to include all 12 of the nominees in the first poll, I had to pull it and put up a 2nd one. My fault.
Pjazzy: Old is right. There should be room in the RRHOF for "The Queen of Disco". Not only was Donna Summer influential, but she made some damn good records.
ABBA, please and Donna. Why isn't it called the Pop Music Hall Of Fame...
Actually I still am annoyed that The Moody Blues aren't in there. And if any boy band from the 80s on up makes it and The Monkees don't...I'll be really annoyed too.
Okay, see Laura Nyro wasn't on there last night. So I added Donna Summer and Laura Nyro on to my votes.
Did you know I saw Laura Nyro in the early 90's. She was awesome...and she is still unknown by so many people.
On Elvis Costello's Sundance channel program "Spectacle" he and Elton John talked about her influence on them and the singer/songwriter tradition. I hope you get a chance o see his program it's on dvd now.
Mistress of the D: I think it's called what it is because the RRHOF sounds more rebellious than The Pop Music Hall of Fame. I sometimes wish it was called the latter because that would end the debate about whether or not artists who are disco, rap, etc. should get inducted.
I feel The Moody Blues should be inducted too. At the very least, they should be on the nominees list.
Although it will never happen, The Monkees are worthy too. I was just saying on my show the other night that they/Michael Nesmith don't get enough credit for being pioneers in the country/rock genre. Plus, their songs were some of the best pop/rock of that era.
Penny: Genesis is getting a ton of love! :-)
X. Dell: I don't know about you, but it was hard narrowing it down to just 5.
Candy: I have a Laura Nyro CD I picked up from work that I've been meaning to listen to... I have to remember to do that this week. She is one of those people that many people don't know (like you said), but they probably are familiar with many of the songs she wrote.
Red: It's sometimes hard to believe that RHCP has been around for 25 years. I think the fact that they have kept a high profile for such a long time will help them get inducted next year.
Janelle: I am with you in regards to your ABBA theory. I think that some guys feel that if you admit to liking ABBA, you have to turn in your "man" card. I don't care what anybody thinks, I'm a big fan.
Mister Anchovy: Thanks for letting me know about the quiz. Are you planning on doing these quizzes on a regular basis? If so, I am there.

Hi Malcolm! Well, I checked off three of them for sure. RHCP, Stooges and LL Cool J.
Darlene Love....She's amazing

Hey Malcolm!
I re-voted.
Genisis changes everything! Phil collins is a lyrical genius.
All of them, actually, but I just checked off five.
Pjazzypar makes a great point...and Donna Summer should be in the hall of fame before the Stooges and RHCPs. My bad.
:)
But why can't they all get in !!!
:)
I will go and look at the poll again Malcolm and vote, no worries!

RHCP?! Really?
I need to go back to the Hall of Fame. It was such a good time.
All worthy artists, & I went for Abba. I have this theory that everyone, at least secretly, loves at least one Abba song.
...just posted a wee pop culture quiz over at my new joint...thought it might be right up your alley. It's here. Cheers.
Har! Way to go. cheers.
