CTFD: Protesters Call For David Letterman's Head

For various reasons, I originally wasn't going to post anything about the Letterman vs. Palin dustup. That is until I saw a clip of the "massive" protest rally outside the building where "The Late Show with David Letterman" is taped. I'll borrow two adjectives from Breakfast Clubber John Bender to describe the protesters calling for the ousting of Dave... demented and sad. I'll add two more. In addition to being entertaining, some of these protesters are quite informative. Had I not watched this, I never would have known that Alex Rodriguez was a professional basketball player or that Jewish was a language.

What the hell? Keep your children safe from David Letterman's mouth? He's a late night TV presenter, no kids should be watching him in the first place. This makes me angry on so many levels. I think both Dave and Palin were wrong here, but these protesters hurt my brain. I cannot stand people who protest something but can't stick to the topic. Littering your protest with random ignorant or racist comments that have nothing to do with your original fight complete negates what you have to say. Also, accusing Dave of having a bastard child but sticking up for Palin? Pot? Kettle? Grr.

Ridiculous all the fuss, although I think he was out of line, no need for protests. He is a comedian, what do they expect, to them nothing is off limits, and that is what makes good comedy in my opinion. These people need to get a life!

Since Leno went off the air, I switched to watching Letterman because, no matter how hard I try, I just don't like Conan's shows.

I heard him say the joke and I thought Bristol (the older daughter) was the subject (I'm sure Letterman did, as well). It was in poor taste, no doubt, but I think the brunt of the insult in that joke was directed toward Alex Rodriguez, no? At least that's how I perceived it when I heard it. I have 3 teenaged daughters and did not perceive that joke as Letterman advocating child rape at all.

These people need to find something else to do with their time. Slamming Letterman's kid is hardly the answer.

That's beyond astroturf. That's more like tartanturf.

BTW, "Schmuck" is not Hebrew, but Yiddish.

Gizmorox: These protesters give new meaning to the term "over the top". What the hell does closing the border and socialism have to do with David Letterman?! I just now caught that the blonde lady with the glasses and the black/white striped jacket incorrectly said that David has a daughter. As for calling Dave's child a bastard and his wife a slut, I think that the word irony is not in the vocabulary of many of these protesters.

Thanks for visiting. I hope to see you back here again soon.

Jessica: Some people just need any excuse (not matter how weak) to get out there and rant about something. I think many of them are upset that conservatives aren't in control right now and so they have to vent whenever possible.

The Rock Chick: Given that you have teenage daughters, I was hoping that you would give your perspective on this controversy. When I heard the joke, I too took it as more of a swipe at A-Rod than at Bristol. Can you imagine having to deal with these protesters on a regular basis?

X. Dell: I also noticed how the person who posted this clip on You Tube made the Hebrew reference in the "quote balloon".
