Excellent choices Malcolm! I started to go with my girl "Hannah Montana", but decided to with the nostalgia angle.
Barney Miller Woohoo!. :)
And the Theme from SWAT is a classic.
That unmistakable bass part of Barney Miller MADE that theme! LOVE IT!! And I, too, like the That's So Raven theme. I hear it often, since my youngest is a Disney channel freak! LOL.
Love the VW commercial in your video!
Barney Miller! :)
Where's Hawaii 5-0??????
Oh Barney! I even remember watching that one. Love Raven too. I admit to watching it on Saturday mornings quite often.
What about Hawaii 50 by The Ventures, Bonanza, The Rockford Files, Green Acres and Quincy Jones' Ironside theme?
Wow...Maude is a good one!
I have kids, The Disney Channel is a well loved part of our family, and I must admit I find myself singing That's So Raven more than I want to admit. And The Best of Both Worlds from Hannah Montana.
There, it's out there.
And I used to love Maude! Hadn't thought of Maude in years!
For some reason I used to watch Barney Miller a lot. This is strange since I must have been around five years old when it was popular. Hill Street Blues, Three's Company, and Barney Miller always remind me of being a little kid. I suppose any adult humor went right over my head!
Is it just me or does Steve Landesberg on Barney Miller look a little bit like Sydney Pollack?
I guess that's why Sydney Pollack always looked so familiar to me.
Some good ones on this list! Barney Miller's bassline is one of the most memorable to date.
Honestly Malcolm, That's so Raven? Really? You don't think you're reaching on that one. Hannah Montana & iCarly have better theme songs. Yes, it's sad that I even know them but my kids watch those shows.
My list which I would consider authoritative would be:
1. Greatest American Hero
2. Welcome Back Kotter
3. Happy Days
4. Friends
5. Still Standing
A very fun list. I enjoyed these highlights here at Pjazzypars place . A lot of fun...I'm trying to think of new show themes I like...some of them are too scary to "lisen" t like LOST...
it's almost new season for regular shows. What are looking forward to this season?
Pjazzy: Thanks! I almost chose HM myself.
Lord Mhoram: When the Theme From SWAT comes on, it's hard not to go "na na na, na na na, na na na, na na na, na na na".
Natsthename (aka Supa-star!): You are so right about that Barney Miller bass line.
Polly: Oh yeah!
Pop Art Diva: With only 5 slots, there were countless that I wasn't able to include. Hawaii Five-0 is one of them.
Mistress of the D: Your fondness for the "That's So Raven" theme makes up for your dislike of Michael Jackson/The Jackson 5. :-)
Mr. Anchovy: With the exception of Green Acres, all the other ones you listed were under consideration for my list.
Shannon: I think if the theme to Maude had been released, it would have been a big hit.
Lori: The broadcast networks would do well if they took a page from the Disney Channel/Nickelodeon sitcoms and get back to having good/catchy theme songs for their shows.
Thriving Holly: That's a funny story about you watching Barney Miller as a little kid. As a kid, I too watched a lot of adult-oriented shows that I now know were way over my head. You are right, Steve Landesburg does look like Sydney Pollack. I never thought of that until now.
Carol: Thanks!
Bryan: As good as the HM theme is, it's got nothing on the one for "That's So Raven". Come now, don't use your kids as an excuse for you knowing about the Disney/Nickelodeon shows. You know they don't even have to be in the room for you to be chuckling to the antics of Hanny Montany.
Your list is OK, but putting the theme for Friends on it drops it at least 5 notches. Top 5 most annoying themes... yes. One of the best, I don't think so.
Candy: There are a couple of new fall shows that I'm interested in seeing. Off the top of my head, I'm intrigued by the premise of "Dollhouse" starring Elisha Dushku. I know there are at least a couple more, but I'll have to look in my issue of EW for reference.
