Because I was struggggling to to get a handle on this week's theme, I reached out to Marvalus (one of the founders of OSF) for assistance. The way she interpreted it was"If I were a (fill in the blank), I'd want to sound like/look like/dance like/be like/groove like/play an instrument like...etc., etc., etc.". Thanks again M!
One of my favorite drummers is one Sheila Escovedo. You likely know her better as Sheila E. In addition to her technical skill with the drumsticks, Sheila has always demonstrated flair and style when she's playing. If I were a woman, I'd love to have Sheila E's skill and style on the drum kit. Below is a scene from Krush Groove (one of the more overlooked movies from the 1980s) in which Sheila performs Hollyrock.
If you'd like to participate in OSF, here are the rules:

I always hated this song BUT I love Sheila E! She has skills off the charts!! To have her drumming skills would be awesome! Great choice!
I LOVE Sheila E!!!!
And don't even start with Stagg...he is crazy about her.
I think there is something supeer sexy and empowering for woemn about being a drummer. I think men tend to find it sexy too.
Hey speaking of her, we taped the three performances of Prince on Jay Leno...I hope you were able to see them. Maybe on YouTube? They are amazing!
You know, I think this week's devious little theme is going to be a big revelation about some of our inner thoughts, huh?!
How interesting your choices always are - I actually thought you might have chosen one of the great girl band lead singers and you surprise me with this! But good choice - women drummers are few and far between.
I have to admit I was a bit confused with this week's theme so I checked your post and came up with my own little twist just in case: If I were "LUCKY" . . .
The woman is B-A-D! Love her. Happy OSF.
I admit I was kind of confused about this week's theme too, but actually managed to come up with a song based on the If I were A Boy...
I've had a mad girl crush on Sheila E since "Glamourous Life"...she is just cool.
Nice going, Malcolm...love your choice!
Happy OSF!
Great clip. Sheila E. puts on a good show. Cool choice the theme, Malcolm.
OMG I can't believe you broke out with Krush Groove. Y'all truly took it back this week. I am loving each person's take on this theme.
Shiela is a good choice. And that mean's you'd be on of Prince's women if you were a girl. :D
Regina: lol about what you said regarding "Hollyrock". I like it when Sheila bounces a drumstick off the drum and then catches it.
Candy: Damn it... I missed Prince on Leno. I'll have to check You Tube or elsewhere online. Thanks for the heads up.
Pop Art Diva: I always try to come up with something unexpected. This week's theme really made me think... which is a good thing.
Hagar's Daughter: Thanks for stopping by and happy belated OSF to you too.
John: I'm glad that others like you have admitted to being baffled by this OSF theme. :-)
Marvalus: I always felt Sheila E. was one of the more underrated talents to come out of the 1980s. Thanks again for the direction you gave me regarding the OSF theme.
Verite: Thanks... I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Hey Shae: Considering that it was one of the first (if not the first) mainstream movie to focus on the rap genre, you'd think that Krush Groove would get more play these days.
