Final Results of the Recent RRHOF Poll, Plus My Thoughts On Who Should/Will Get In

Narrowly edging out 2nd place, Genesis received the most votes in the poll in which I asked which of the 12 nominees for the 2010 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame should be inducted.

Here are the final results of the poll:

Genesis- 41%
ABBA- 37%
The Hollies and Donna Summer- 24% each
KISS- 22%
The Stooges- 18%
LL Cool J and Red Hot Chili Peppers- 15% each
Jimmy Cliff and Darlene Love- 13% each
The Chantels and Laura Nyro- 5% each

Only 5 of the 12 nominees will be inducted. Below are my thoughts on the nominees for the 2010 class. I selected the 5 I think should get in and the 5 I think will. Please note that for some of the ones I said shouldn't get in, I'm not saying they should never be inducted. It's just that I don't think they should get in next year.

I was too lazy busy to provide any analysis as to why I feel the way I do. However, if you are curious as to why I made my choices, feel free to ask me in the comments section.

ABBA- Shouldn't and won't get inducted
The Chantels- Shouldn't and won't get inducted
Jimmy Cliff- Shouldn't and won't get inducted
Genesis- Should and will get inducted
The Hollies- Shouldn't and won't get inducted
KISS- Should, but won't get inducted
LL Cool J- Shouldn't and won't get inducted
Darlene Love- Should and will get inducted
Laura Nyro- Shouldn't, but will get inducted
Red Hot Chili Peppers- Shouldn't, but will get inducted
The Stooges- Should and will get inducted
Donna Summer- Should, but won't get inducted

Hey Malcolm, Call it a hunch, but I think this might be Donna's year. Too bad we have to wait nearly six months to see actually makes it into the Hall.

I think Donna is gonna get inducted too.

Although Laura Nyro might not seem like a big name...she was a huge influence on singer/songwriters.

Thanks for such a fun poll Malcolm, I loved this one and everyone's feelings about the subject.

Pjazzy: I hope you are right about Donna Summer. If and when they do induct her, the RRHOF should put the biggest strobe light right in the middle of the museum as a way of saying "shut up" to anyone who doesn't think disco belongs in the hall. :-)

As a heads up, although the induction ceremony is on March 15, 2010, the inductees will be announced in January.

Candy: Although I think Laura Nyro is worthy of induction someday, I wouldn't put her in this year. Even if people don't know her name, they more than likely know her songs. Some of my favorite songs by The Fifth Dimension (Sweet Blindness, Save the Country, and Blowing Away) came from the pen of Nyro. Then again, you probably knew that already. :-)

This is one of the strongest group of nominees I've seen in awhile. As a result, somebody unfortunately is going to get the shaft.

Thanks for the kind words about the poll. People are really passionate about the RRHOF.

The Hollies should get in, could get in, and did. They should have been in long ago, and were every bit as successful and important to music as other British Invasion bands who did get in.

Vrinda: Thanks for stopping by. I can tell you are a huge Hollies fan. :-)

Not surprisingly, the induction of The Hollies into the RRHOF did shock me. In addition to me feeling they aren't a RRHOF caliber group, I also think they were one of the weaker acts to be nominated last year for induction.

When the nominations for the 2011 class of the RRHOF are announced, I will be posting another poll. I hope you come back here and share your opinions on the nominees.
