The A-Team Movie Scheduled To Hit the Big Screen in 2009

After being in development hell for almost 10 years, the big screen version of "The A-Team" looks like it may finally be coming to theaters in 2009. Based on the hit NBC series that ran from 1983-1987 and starred George Peppard (Capt. John "Hannibal" Smith), Mr. T (B.A. "Bad Attitude" Baracus), Dirk Benedict (Templeton "Faceman" Peck), and Dwight Schultz ("Howling Mad" Murdock) , the film version will be directed by Oscar nominee John Singleton.

Although a cast has not yet been announced, Singleton hopes to get Woody Harrelson for the role of zany chopper pilot "Howling Mad" Murdock. Expressing interest in the role of ace mechanic and all-around "Mr. Fix It" B.A. Baracus is none other than Ice Cube. Cube told blackfilm.com that he would even sport the Mohawk look if given the role.

I personally think that Woody and Ice Cube would be perfect in those roles. To fill the role of "Hannibal" Smith (master of disguise and leader of the A-Team), I think that Bruce Willis or Kurt Russell would be ideal. In the role of ladies' man Templeton "Faceman" Peck, I can picture someone like Luke Wilson or Matthew McConaughey. If they decide to include the character of reporter Amy Allen (played by Melinda Culea in the TV version), Sarah Michelle Gellar would fit the bill. The film version of "The A-Team" is scheduled to hit theaters in June 2009.

If you were the casting director, who would pick to star in the film version of "The A-Team"?

Below is the opening credits sequence of the original series:

What a stupid show that was. Yet, I watched it all the time!

Kurt Russell is a good choice for Hannibal. Mmmmmm, Kurt Russell. :)

I think it all depends on the spin. The A-Team is one of those glorious concepts that could be either very serious or very silly, sort of like what they did with Starsky and Hutch.
hmmm... casting... Woody for Murdock is not too bad a call, and Ice Cube for B.A. well, ok with that too I suppose. He doesn't strike me as quite big enough, I think Ving Rhames would be a little better, or hell Mr. T himself!(he better at least have a cameo). For Hannibal you need someone a bit older, with that quality that says "leader", to me Bruce Willis just doesn't have that, neither does Russel, they're both too free agent/independent. My choice would be Sam Elliot. And for Face, Josh Holloway, who plays Sawyer on Lost, I think it's a good combo of cocky and sincere.

Great update, thanks for it. I like ICE cube because he's got those eyebrows when he makes a mad face.

Personally, I would have rather seen Mr. T play the role again :)

I haven't seen this show in years. Ice Cube will make a good B. A. He even has the permanent scowl.

I was scanning through the channels and saw a better choice for B. A. than Ice Cube. Your old school mate Terry Crews. What you think?

Mr. T must return as B.A. There is no alternative. I like your pics for the others, although I think that someone like Harrison Ford would make a great Hannibal.

On a side note, this made me remember the time that my brother couldn't find his Mr. T action figure. He was a huge A-Team fan....so he cried and we searched and searched. Finally we found it stuck on the back of our car. He must have stuck it there while he was playing outside on the driveway. Apparently, Mr. T had been holding on to our trunk and had survived all my mom's errands around town that day. Why I remember this is beyond me...

Do you know if they plan on bringing any of the original actors on for cameos? I'd love to see Dirk Benedict onscreen again, not to mention Dwight Schultz - I loved him on the A-Team and on STTNG.

And Mr T should come back as a "heavy", lol.

I would like to have seen Matt Frewer (Max Headroom) for Murdock but he's too old probably for this cast.

Beckeye: I don't know when you watched "The A-Team", but for the mid 80s it was pretty much a given what I would be doing on Tuesday nights at 8.

Michael T: From what I hear, John Singleton plans on making a straight action film. However, I hope he doesn't make it too serious because that would go against "The A-Team" that many of us know and love.

To play B.A., it would help if Ice Cube bulked up a bit. Even if he doesn't, I still think he could pull it off.

Sam Elliott isn't a bad choice for Hannibal. I just wonder if he can pull off the smart-assed side of Hannibal's personality. There is probably an actor out there that we haven't thought of that would be the perfect Hannibal.

Even if they have him shave and put him in a suit, I don't see Josh Holloway as Face. He know doubt could do the con-man aspect, but I don't know he can embody the smoothness of Face.

Damien: Thank you! I keep picturing Ice Cube scowling and that makes me think he would be a damn good B.A.

Pjazzy: I was reading one of the message boards on imdb.com and saw where someone suggested that Terry Crews would make a good B.A. I have no doubt that he could do it, but Ice Cube still gets my vote.

Holly: You aren't going to start a protest if they cast someone else instead of Mr. T are you? lol

When I was thinking of actors who could play Hannibal, I considered Harrison Ford. At first I thought he might be too old, but now I think he would be a good choice.

That story about the Mr. T action figure is hilarious. I wonder what was more scary for B.A.: a ride on a car trunk or on an airplane?

Pop Art Diva: As of now, no casting decisions have been finalized. However, they better bring the surviving members of the original series back for at least cameos. I had never thought of Matt Frewer for Murdock, but he would be an excellent choice to play Murdock. Frewer isn't as old as I thought (according to imdb.com, he is 50 yrs old).

Hey Holly, Mr. T. is far too old to play B. A. that was over 30 years ago, he is 60 if he is a day. Now he could play B. A.'s father.

Well, my boyfriend is pretty excited about this movie project...I like the idea of most of the cast..especially Woody Harrelson, he's always a riot.

Sure you weren't a casting director in your former life?

Candy Minx: I have faith that John Singleton will do it right... at least I hope he will.

X. Dell: I'm fairly positive I wasn't a casting director. Just to be sure, I'll ask Shirley MacLaine the next time I see her.
