I guess Hanna Montana will sell more copies. But, I won't be buying either of them! Although I do think Mariah Carey does have a lot of talent and is really beautiful. I'm just not into her music.
Let's be realistic. Who buys CD's? Why it's teenagers and people in their very early 20's. I remember being that age and having to have all the latest music. You can tell by the way Miley is selling out concerts that her CD is going to sell volumes.
Mariah appeals to a much older crowd than she did when she first appeared on the scene. If we were comparing the 1990 Mariah to Miley, Mariah would give her a run. Mariah was one of the first artist I know to actually have a diamond album (10,000,000 units).
With all that said I cast my vote for Miley, although I will probably be purchasing Mariah's.
The Mistress of the D: "Hannah Montana" is a guilty pleasure of mine. The acting is over the top and the jokes are mostly obvious, but it makes me laugh and that's all I look for in a sitcom.
Jay: Mariah's talent and beauty are undeniable. Although I like some of her songs, I have never bought any of her CDs.
The Rock Chick: The power of Hannah/Miley is astounding. When I read those stories about parents practically taking out 2nd mortgages on their houses for concert tix, I realized just how powerful she was.
Pjazzy: Although I think Miley's CD will debut at #1 when it goes into wide release on 4/15, let's not count out Mariah. After all, her last CD (The Emancipation of Mimi) had sold 10 million copies by the end of 2006.
Although they probably don't buy as much as they did when they were younger, people 30 and older still purchase their share of CDs. Several veteran artists who appeal to older consumers (Sheryl Crow, Alan Jackson, Mary J. Blige, and the Eagles to name a few) have had top 10 albums in 2008 alone.
I thought I posted this comment but I got a blank page so I'll post it again - in case you get 2 you'll know why! I voted for Hannah/Miley even though I didn't know who the heck she was until a week ago! Though I remember her dad!
I voted for her for the reasons pjazzyparr stated - lots of little kids buy music and they like her.
Pop Art Diva: Damned Blogger... I hate it when it eats up somebody's comments. I feel that Hannah/Miley will outsell Mariah (at least in the first week) for the very same reason. If you like silly sitcom humor and light but catchy pop songs, you should check out the show "Hannah Montana".
I voted for Mariah Carey though...because she seems to have a long lasting devoted fan base internationally.
But I ahven't a clue...I was just trying to vote by deduction rather than any kind of actual knowledge...
Listen, I'm excired about the new Keanu Reeves, The Game and Common movie and Madonnas cd drops in a few days...I'm out of the loop with Hannah Montana...
Candy: If you like cheesy, over-top-comedy and catchy pop tunes, you should give "Hannah Montana" a try. I can't believe it, I am now recommending that people watch "Hannah Montana", lol. That new Keanu Reeves movie looks interesting. It seems like it's been awhile since he's been in anything. I'll try to listen to samples of tracks from Madonna's upcoming CD. If I like one, I will use it on my radio show.
X. Dell and Mrs. Brownstone: Although I think Hannah Montana will outsell Mariah in the first week, I also believe that it won't be a runaway. It might even turn out that Mariah wins the sales contest due to:
1. Public interest because it's been a few years since her last release
2. "Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus fatigue" because of the amount of product that's hit the market in the past year

Having three daughters, I can safely say that anything with Hannah Montana on it will be a top seller!
I've never cared all that much for Mariah Carey. I don't know why.

No brainer. The concert tour has all sorts of demand and Disney tie-ins.
Hannah/Miley will sell more. Sorry, Mariah.
