Old School Fridays: Prince

When I saw that the theme for OSF this week was Prince, I was quickly reminded of the ongoing battle he and the Universal Music Publishing Group has with You Tube. Although most of the Purple One's clips have been removed from You Tube. However, a few remain... but with no sound! Since I didn't feel like fuckin' around trying to find a suitable Prince clip on You Tube, I went over to Daily Motion and found a live version of him performing his #1 hit "Kiss" at a 1986 concert in Detroit. Although Prince and Universal are within their rights to have the clips removed from You Tube, I wish that they would reconsider. After all, it's the best kind of promotion... free!

I love this guy. He epitomizes everything a 50 year old should be. He wears it so well. Love the live performance :-)

I attended a Prince show a couple years ago here in Toronto, and although I went to the show not really being a fan, I have to say it was a fantastic, creative, energetic show featuring some excellent, excellent musicianship. I admire Prince for having the guts to fight the record industry. If he doesn't want his material on YouTube, I respect that.

Prince is The Man. I love that he has matured and mellowed out a bit. I love Prince.

Good Lawd, that's a pretty man (LOL). Yes, after all of these years, I still love me some PRINCE!

Malcolm - exactly what I thought and said in my comments on The Grapevine and Mrsmarvelous!

But I was never a big Prince fan except for his purple fetish and his name change which I adapted for myself....

P.S. Sorry I've been missing lately - I'm under the gun working on a big ad campaign with dozens of layouts!

Kiss is the best Karaokes song, after Pretty Woman, I think everyone love singing that song. Great Pick, I love to sing in the mirror with my hair brush to this song...

What is not to love about Prince?!

Even with his tirade against his music on the 'net, the music is still some of the best on the planet!

I love that song. Another song I really like by Prince that I didn't think of putting on my OSF is Rasberry Beret.

Barbara: Once Prince jumped out at you, what was his next move?

Pjazzy: Prince is like the Dorian Gray of music. With the exception of his hairstyles, he has hardly changed since his 80s peak.

Fortune Cookies: I'm glad that I... or should I say Prince, could get your Friday off to a good start.

Mister A: I can see Prince being one of those artists that would put on live shows that even non-fans would enjoy.

Hagar's Daughter: He's come a long way from those "ass less" pants he used to wear in the early 90s.

Lori: Down girl, down!

Jessica: Yes he is. I can't imagine Prince without the quirks.

SJP: Thanks!

Hey Shae: The lack of Prince music videos on the web actually worked out in my favor. Otherwise, I probably wouldn't have chosen a live performance.

Pop Art Diva: Because I hadn't seen you around much, I figured that you were busy doing your Pop Art Diva thing. I hope all goes well.

Regina: Thanks!

Mrs. Grapevine: I never thought about it, but I can see how "Kiss" would be a great karaoke song. I couldn't pull it off though... my voice is too deep. :-)

Ms. Marvulus: I think he might have lost the battle with Warner Bros., but in the end won the war.

Johnh985: Your mentioning of "Raspberry Beret" made me think of an album rock station that used to be in Flint (WWCK-FM). Before a rock oriented album would hit record stores, they would play it in its entirety starting at midnight. On the night they played "Around the World In A Day", I made sure I had my tape recorder all set.
