For this week's selections, I decided to go with two songs that sometimes get forgotten when it comes to tunes by New Edition as a group or as solo acts. The first is 1985's
My Secret (Didja Gitit Yet?). I can't remember if I caught this song first from seeing the video on BET or if it was from the local R&B station in Flint. Anyway, it's perhaps my favorite NE tune. Along with Magic Johnson, Pat Riley, and other members of the Lakers and the Portland Trailbazers, the video to
My Secret (Didja Gitit Yet?) features actress Tyra Ferrell (she's the lady in the orange sweater dancing with others from the neighborhood). You may remember her from her roles in
Boyz In the Hood (the mother of Doughboy and Ricky) and
White Men Can't Jump (she played the wife of Wesley Snipes).
Selection #2 is the 2nd single (Stone Cold Gentleman) from Ralph Tresvant's 1990 self-title debut album. Playing a private detective in the video, Ralph gets some help from his NE brother Bobby Brown (who co-stars as his partner in the detective biz).

Tyra Ferrell - now that's a throwback.
And Stone Cold Gentleman almost makes me sad. 1990 was such a silly year for NE solo projects!
I just watched Stone Cold Gentlemen last night, and never realized Bobby Brown was his sidekick in video until now.
I agree with Thembi, this was not their finest moment, but I didn't care because I loved this group...
Oooh, my secret. I had this tape, and I wore it out. What am I talking about, I had all the music...
Interesting picks for this theme! I had forgotten all about Stone Cold Gentleman!
New Edition sure had some longevity!
That was great picks, I almost went with some Ralph but decided to stick with mine.
Great picks!
My Secret still makes me feel all giddy and giggly when I hear it. And as for Ralph, I still play that album like I purchased it yesterday.
BTW, I usually don't leave links, but my blog has moved! You can find me at www.soulafrodisiac.wordpress.com
loved, loved My Secret. How could I have forgotten that one??? Nice picks!
Tyra Ferrell .. I think she is also the woman that is always dancing behind Young MC in the Bust a Move video....
Anon: Thanks for stopping by. I just watched the "Bust A Move" video and found that the woman dancing behind Young MC isn't Tyra. She was fine whoever she was though.
