Retro Commercial: Blip

Do the weirdest things from years ago ever pop into your mind for no reason? That's what happened to me when I was fixing a turkey burger sandwich yesterday evening. While getting all my condiments (Miracle Whip, lettuce, and tomatoes) lined up as my turkey burger was being heated, I started to think about the portable electronic game from the late 1970s called Blip. Very similar to the even more primitive Pong, Blip involved an LED (light emitting diode) that bounced back and forth across the screen... all you had to do was press the right button to send it back. Watching this commercial makes me laugh at how easy we were entertained back in the day. Hell, Blip became dated once the "state-of-art" Atari 5200 hit the market in 1982!

Even though it's been over 30 years, this is one of those commercials that never seeped out of my cranium. Probably because it not only played constantly, but the theme song was annoyingly catchy too (Blip blip blip blip blip blip blip blip blip blip blip blip blip blip....). After watching this commercial just once, you may wish you had the actual game Blip. Not to actually play it, but to smash it to pieces in frustration because you can't get that damn song out of your head!

Hey, you like Miracle Whip on turkey too! Must be a mid-Western thing.

Blip, blip, blip, blip!

I don't remember Blip, but I certainly jumped on the video game wagon by 1982. Isn't it crazy that you were able to pull up that commercial?

Never heard of Blip, but I did like Pong.

I love turkey burgers, too! They are so much more delicious (my opinion) than ground beef! We are Miracle Whip people, too!!!!

My sister had a Blip! She loved it. I was never that into video games of any kind except for my beloved Pac Man.

Pop Art Diva: I used to be a huge Miracle Whip fan. However, a few years ago I switched over to Ranch or Thousand Island dressing (since it works for salads and sandwiches). Last week, I bought Miracle Whip for a change of pace and I have to say I am hooked again!

Thriving Holly: Yes, it is crazy. Even though you can find nearly everything on You Tube, I was still a little surprised when I hit paydirt on my Blip search.

Jessica: The ones I normally buy are the Lean Seasoned Turkey Burger Patties by Jennie-O. I also get the turkey sausage patties too!

Back in elementary school, one of my friends had Pong. We would sometimes play for hours.

The Rock Chick: Look at all of these Miracle Whip fans come out of the woodwork. I never thought I'd come to a point where I would mainly eat turkey burgers instead of the ground beef kind.

I was into Pac-Man big time. Do you remember the tips and tricks books they had which contained patterns to help you avoid the "ghosts"?
