Bull Durham Sequel In the Works?

While watching P.T.I. on Monday, I learned that a sequel to the 1988 baseball film "Bull Durham" is on the way. After doing a quick web search, I found that Kevin Costner reportedly has met with director Ron Shelton to discuss reprising the role of catcher "Crash Davis". Co-stars Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon are also expected to return as pitcher Nuke LaLoosh and baseball groupie Annie Savoy, who are now married and owners of a Major League team that Costner's character manages. In the article I read, it referred to the proposed sequel as "long-awaited"... hmm. I didn't realize that the public was clamoring to find out what happened to Crash, Nuke, and Annie. Although I enjoyed the original film, I was content to have it end right there. Having said that, if done right, the sequel could prove to be worth watching.

In a side note, I doubt that Costner or anyone that he knows reads my blog. However, it is a coincidence that in my October 4th post I referred to Kevin Costner's film career as "dead" and now there's talk of him doing a sequel to one of his most successful movies.

What about you... are you interested at all in a sequel to "Bull Durham"?

I'll watch it on video. I would be more interested in a sequel to "Field of Dreams".

No so much. I didn't watch the original and I too think Kevin's career is "dead". The last movie I loved him in was "Dances With Wolves" and that was a LONG time ago.

I checked out hulu.com and was happy to see SNL clips! I can't get enough of Tina Fey's Sarah Palin. I think it's spot-on (and not just the visual)! Some of the videos I watched on Fancast said they were from hulu.com. I also did a quick check on TV4u but didn't like that as much. I was excited to see that they had a few exercise videos but then they took forever to load. I'll give it a try again because I do love Mannix!!!

Why, why, why does Hollywood believe that is it necessary to make a sequel to any film?? A classic should remain just that. A classic stands up to the hands of time and does not require a sequel or prequel -- Star Wars may be the exception. Perhaps there are less roles for some actors and this is the only way to make more money -- poor dears can't live on the millions they already have -- but try summer equity and leave great films alone!

What's the phrase I'm looking for?

How about:

NO! For the love of all that is holy, NO!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's like MTV getting its greasy mitts all over Rocky Horror. Gross.

Pjazzy: I'm in the same boat as you. You probably won't find this hard to believe, but I have never seen "Field of Dreams"... only bits of it.

Bryan: I'm always a bit skeptical when they wait so long to make a follow-up... it's been 20 years since "Bull Durham"!

Kristi: Because it's been so damn long, it's easy to forget that Kevin at one point in time was arguably the biggest male star in the movies. At the very least, he was in the top 3.

I agree with you about Tina Fey. Because she's a dead ringer for Sarah Palin, she could have easily just coasted on that. However, the voice is perfect.

As for tv4u.com, I saw "Peter Gunn" for the very first time the other night. Before, I had only seen clips on TV retrospectives. I also watched an episode of the sitcom "Love That Bob". It's fun to see Ann B. Davis (Alice from The Brady Bunch) in an earlier role.

Karen: When I clicked on your link, it just said your name and location (MI). I was trying to figure out who you were and then I remembered that Amy has a friend named Karen. Thanks for stopping by again.

I ask myself the same question a lot of times regarding why sequels are made, but we both know the answer... money. There are some good sequels, but those are the exception and not the rule. If you have time, I hope you can stop by again and check out another post I am doing later this evening on sequels.

Amy: Because you are a baseball fan, I figured you'd be none too happy about the possibility of a "Bull Durham" sequel. As I told Karen, I will be doing another post on sequels later today. I hope you can join in on the discussion.

I wasn't thinking of such a sequel...but I guess considering it is a movie that has a cult beloved following it makes sense. I mean people who love this moovie...LOVE this movie.

I thought she ended up with Costner...not the doofus Robbins plays...I thought that was the major pay off and conflict in the first movie?

I was very impressed with Cosner in "Mr. Brooks" it was like all the promise of Costner was relaized again in that role. I missed you saying that Costners work was dead...I'll have to go back and re-read your posts!
