Tuesday Tunes: Week 69

Tuesday Tunes: Week 69
One question this week:

Tell us your biggest musical regret.

I regret that I didn't take the opportunity to meet Motown star Martha Reeves a few years ago. She came to do an on-air interview at the AM station where I worked. I knew about the Sunday afternoon interview a day in advance and considered going. However, once Sunday came around, the 40 minute drive to the station wasn't all that appealing. Plus, a less than flattering anecdote that I read about Ms. Reeves in a Motown-related book made me reluctant as well. Suffice it to say, my co-worker informed me later that Ms. Reeves displayed no diva-like behavior when she came to the station.

When I was a kid, my parents wanted me to play accordion, but I hated the idea. Who would want to play a geeky uncool instrument like that? They had me take lessons long enough to realize that I wasn't interested at all. Thirty-some years later, I started to learn to play button accordions and piano accordions. I regret that I didn't stick with it as a kid, because by now, I'd have some pretty good chops.

You know I would never turn down a chance to meet a recording star. What is weird is that I never got that vibe from Martha (Diva) and you know she has always been one of my favorite acts at Motown. Sometimes I break out her anthology on wax, just to hear "Love Makes Me Do Foolish Things" or "Tear On Down" in its original form. Sometimes stars have isolated incidents of divadom or if you are doing interviews at obscure AM stations in Michigan, she might have developed some humility over the years.

Not going to see Pink Floyd with my dad because he wasn't cool. Should have gone.

That's a shame. Hope you at least got to meet some other famous people working at that AM station,

Man I got too many too count, start with all the concerts of acts that have passed away.

James Brown, Issac hayes, Bo Didley, Miriam Makeba, Lucky Dube, Ike Turner.

Than there are concerts I keep missing cause by the time I hear about them there sold out.

Great question. Most of the artists I enjoy, I've been fortunate enough to see live in concert. But I do regret not going to see the Jacksons when they did their final tour.

As a kid and back when they were still the Jackson Five, I'd been a HUGE fan. But by the time they'd transformed into the Jacksons, I'd lost interest. But till this day, whenever I see old footage of the
J5, I get the biggest grin on my face.

Also, I used to have all of these great J5 posters, scrapbooks and the like that got lost (or stolen) during the many moves and military relocations I made with my family. Gosh, the memories (smile).
