Thursday Thirteen #77: TV Twosomes

As the rap classic by Rob Base and DJ EZ Rock exclaimed, "It takes two to make a thing go right... it takes two to make it outta sight!" Although they weren't rapping/singing/scratching about TV characters, the lines do apply to small screen duos. Below (in chronological order) are 13 of my favorite TV twosomes.

Who are some of your fave twosomes of television?

Also, please take a moment to vote in the current "Twilight" poll off to your left.

1. Tod Stiles and Buz Murdock of Route 66

2. Lucy Carmichael and Vivian Bagley of The Lucy Show

3. Maxwell Smart and Agent 99 of Get Smart

4. Sgt. Joe Friday and Office Bill Gannon of Dragnet

5. Oscar Madison and Felix Under of The Odd Couple

6. Hawkeye Pierce and Trapper John McIntyre of M*A*S*H

7. Dave Starsky and Ken Hutchinson of Starsky & Hutch

8. Laverne DeFazio and Shirley Feeney of Laverne & Shirley

9. Doogie Howser and Vinnie Delpino of Doogie Howser, M.D.

10. Cybill Sheridan and Maryann Thorpe of Cybill

11. Veronica Mars and Wallace Fennel of Veronica Mars

12. Miley Stewart (aka Hannah Montana) and Lilly Truscott (aka Lola Luftnagle) of Hannah Montana

13. Shawn Spencer and Burton Guster ("Gus") of Psych

I think I liked Hawkeye and Honeycut better.

Great list! I love all the twosomes. That Maryann Thorpe was quite a caution :-D

I like this Thursday 13 bit.

Shhhhh..I'll tell you a secret: I had a HUGE crush on Alan Alda when I was younger. :) hahahahhaaha

Laverne and Shirely have the raddest clothes ever. I love that show!!

You've got something with the twosomes. :) Friendship is a great thing. Happy TT!

Great list! I love all of them too.

I would also add Briscoe and Logan from "Law and Order"

And, of course Lorelai and Rory Gilmore. ;-)

Forgetfulone: I look forward to seeing your post on dynamic duos

Alice: I give Hawkeye and Trapper the edge because I think they were more comical and anti-establishment.

Heather: I feel the same way about "Psych". I am currently watching the season 3 DVD set.

Americanising Desi: Cool!

i beati: I thought about picking Dave and Maddie from "Moonlighting", but went with the lesser known Cybill and Maryann.

Hootin' Anni: Please see my comments to Alice Audrey. :-)

Susan: I still think one of the funniest episodes of any sitcom was the L&S episode where they were guinea pigs (Laverne couldn't sleep and Shirley couldn't eat).

Willa: I don't know if they are still available through Hulu.com, but they did have episodes of "Doogie Howser, M.D." posted.

Ornery's Wife: I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Pjazzy: Lifetime was showing reruns of "Cybill" earlier this year. I caught some episodes when I was on vacation. Wikipedia lists "Cybill" as a show still airing on Lifetime, but Lifetime's site doesn't have it on their schedule.

Penny: Hey everybody... guess who Penny had a crush on when she was a kid?! I can see Alan's crushability though... if you had said Harry Morgan, I might have to wonder about you, lol.

Brenda: You are so right about friendship.

Jay: I have only seen "Gilmore Girls" a couple of times, but thought it was really good. It's one of those shows that I want to start watching regularly, but there seems to always be something else going on... I should see if my library has the DVDs.

Calico: Although some people might say it's blasphemous, I feel that Miley and Lily are a modern version of Lucy and Ethel.

How could you have forgotten MARY & RHODA from The Mary Tyler Moore Show??? Or maybe they weren't one of your top 13 favs, lol.

I loved Rhoda's free spirit balance to Mary's uptight good girl image.

My TT this week is The Best Part of CHRISTMAS PAST.

I loved Laverne and Shirley lol I have to admit, Hannah Montana has grown on me since both of my girls watch it. Fun list! Happy T13!

That was a trip down memory lane. I loved the Odd Couple and Get Smart when I was younger. Psych is one of my new fav's, too. White Collar has caught my attention, too. Many of the good shows have a duo that play off one another.

Excellent choices!

I'd add:
Bo and Luke Duke from Dukes of Hazzard

and Sam and Dean Winchester from Supernatural

I would say Arnold Horshack & Vinnie Barbarino from Welcome Back, Kotter, Mork & Mindy, Kate & Allie, Sherlock Holmes & Dr. Watson, Charlie Chan & Number One Son, Fonzie & Ritchie, and Cagney & Lacey.

The greatest twosome is Steed and Mrs Peel from The Avengers!

Of the ones you have here, it's either Maxwell Smart and Agent 99 or Shawn and Gus from Psych!

Bev Sykes said...

I like this idea. I think I'll adopt it later. Thanks!

OOOOHhhh Veronica and Wallace!!! Veronica Mars had soooo much potential. It really bummed me out that it didn't have enough viewers to keep going.

Nice list!!

Pop Art Diva: While thinking of TV twosomes, Mary and Rhoda came to mind. However, I didn't include them for the very reason you mentioned... they weren't one of my faves, lol. I will say that Rhoda could rock a head scarf like no one else.

Adelle: I can't even blame my watching "Hannah Montana" on kids or nieces/nephews. I was channel surfing a couple of years ago and decided to stop on the Disney Channel to see what all the fuss was over this Hannah Montana kid. I've been a fan ever since.

Kristen: I've seen bits of "White Collar" and it looks like the two leads make a great team.

Celtic Librarian: You mean you'd pick Bo and Luke over Coy and Vance?! Just kidding!

Anonymous: Thanks for listing some of your fave TV duos. I came very close to including both Kate & Allie and Cagney & Lacey.

Richard: When "The Avengers" aired on A&E during the early 90s, I wish I watched it more often. One thing I can say about "The Avengers" is that it had one of the best opening credits sequences ever! I'd tape "The Fugitive" (which aired right before "The Avengers" on A&E) and the timer recording would catch the beginning of "The Avengers").

Bev: Thanks! I'm interested to see which twosomes you choose.

Sarah: I agree with you on "Veronica Mars". I will say that it's a good thing it aired on UPN instead of one of the big 3 networks. Otherwise, it likely wouldn't have lasted beyond it's first season.

I saw the comments that an anonymous poster left you regarding your description of Clay Aiken. I'll have to keep that in mind because the last thing I want to do is piss off a Claymate.

LOL! Of all listed, I only know Veronica Mars! I know Starsky & Hutch, and Get Smart too, but only the newer movies. I love Veronica Mars though, it's a pity it got canceled. =(

Betty: Thanks for visiting. There were plans to continue the Veronica Mars saga by jumping ahead a few years and having her join the F.B.I... unfortunately, the CW didn't go for it and the show was canceled.
