No nominations for Monty Python?
X. Dell: I decided to only include movies where cross-dressing was the central plot theme. To the best of my knowledge, none of the Python films fit that criteria. However, since I am not all that familiar with the films of Monty Python, I could be wrong. I also didn't include movies where a performer actually played a character of the opposite sex (such as both versions of "Hairspray").
Robin Williams hands down!
Actually, Monty Python did the drag thing in all of their movies.
Pjazzy: The man formerly known as Mork did make a convincing old lady.
X. Dell: Because the Python men appeared in drag in some of the episodes I saw from their TV show, I'm not surprised that they continued this trend in their films. What I am wondering is this: Would most people consider the cross-dressing in films such as "Monty Python's The Life of Brian" and "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" the main plot point or a minor one?
I guess the bottom line is that it is a matter of personal opinion as to what one considers a cross-dressing comedy. Similar to the debate regarding what constitutes a "One Hit Wonder".
Great idea for a poll...thisis my favourite oneso far. I voted for Some Like It Hot. I own it and laugh and love it anew each time I see it.
I even have a Vanity Fair magazine photo on my fridge of Lemmon and Curtis in the 90's in drag make up and underwear!
This was a hard one, because I loved Tootsie and Mrs Doubtfire, but well...Robin wins because he's the greatest!
Candy Minx: I am glad to hear that this is your favorite. It's definitely an improvement over my last poll (about TV shows coming to DVD), which was rather weak. I wish I could have seen that 1990s photo of Tony and Jack. I searched the web, but didn't find anything yet.
Mistress of the D: I am picturing that scene where Mrs. Doubtfire's chest caught fire... funny stuff!
I was going to go for Tootsie, but Mrs. Doubtfire was the man/woman. If you want to see good Monty Python cross dressing, watch Terry Jones on the show. He's the best.
robin williams is truly repulsive. and as mrs doubtfire even more so like a weird pedophile grandmother. my vote goes to some like it hot. and good job on the long and winding road. also enjoy your avatar...is it your own creation?
Hey, I'll scan thepicof Tony and Jack for you okay...
I just gave a shout out about this poll and I will now add the pic on my blog okay?
Which reminds me...my second very favourite cross dressing movie is Victor/Victoria. I've sen it probably as many times as Some Like It Hot and Tootsie. Dis you leave it out because this wa sa male subject and what about a pollfor female cross dressing?
Movies could include Shakespeare IN Love, Twelfth Night...hmm I know there are others.
I love that Shakespeares plays, usually the comedies, often hinge on cross dressing disguised characters.
I just voted for Some Like It Hot...had trouble voting probably because I am using the same computer as Candy and I couldn't relog in to vote?
HI Malcolm,
I am coming over from seeing this on Candy's blog.
I love all the Kids in the Hall episodes.
Does that count?
Dave Foley was amazing as a woman.
Enemy of the R: Thanks for swinging by. I may have to check You Tube for clips of Terry Jones in drag.
She: Don't hold back, tell us how you really feel about Robin Williams/Mrs. Doubtfire. :-)
I am pleased to see how well "Some Like It Hot" is doing in the poll. I finally saw it for the first time a few years ago... it lived up to its hype.
Thanks for what you said about my performance in the Long and Winding Road quiz. I love stuff like that!
I created the avatar at Meez.com. I'm glad you like it!
Candy: Thanks for posting the pic of Tony and Jack on your blog. That look on Jack's face is priceless.
After I posted this poll, I regretted that I didn't include "Victor, Victoria" because I try to make the polls as balanced as possible.
Stagg: Thanks for participating. It sounds like you were having problems voting because voters aren't allowed to select more than one choice and Candy already voted on that computer). If your vote for Some Like It Hot didn't get processed, let me know and I will enter it for you.
The Healing Room: Thanks for stopping by. I have some friends who are big Kids In the Hall fans. I never really got into it. However, I did enjoy Dave Foley's work on "NewsRadio". Maybe I'll do a poll on sketch comedy shows at some point in the future.
