Since Jack's latest film "The Bucket List" (co-starring Morgan Freeman) is going into wide release on January 11th, I thought I would list some classic quotes from some of his earlier movies. Because I haven't posted any trivia in awhile, I decided to just provide the quotes and see if you can name the movies. Some are fairly easy, others not so. If you don't want to play along, but want to list some of your favorite Nicholson movies/quotes instead, you can do that too. Feel free to check back on Friday, because I will provide the answers in the comments section. Have fun!
1. [Drinking his Jim Beam] Here's the first of the day, fellas! To old D.H. Lawrence.
[He starts flapping one arm like a chicken]
Neh! Neh! Neh! Fuh! Fuh! Fuh! Indians.
2. I am the motherfucking shore patrol, motherfucker! I am the motherfucking shore patrol! Give this man a beer.
3. I run my unit how I run my unit. You want to investigate me, roll the dice and take your chances. I eat breakfast 300 yards from 4000 Cubans who are trained to kill me, so don't think for one second that you can come down here, flash a badge, and make me nervous.
4. I see men, sixty, seventy years old breaking their balls to stay fit! What for? When I die, I want to be sick, not healthy.
5. If you wanted to get me on my back, all you had to do was ask me.
6. Little pigs, little pigs, let me come in. Not by the hair of your chiny-chin-chin? Well then I'll huff and I'll puff, and I'll blow your house in.
7. Relatively soon, I will die. Maybe in 20 years, maybe tomorrow, it doesn't matter. Once I am dead and everyone who knew me dies too, it will be as though I never existed. What difference has my life made to anyone. None that I can think of. None at all.
8. Temper's the one thing you can't get rid of, by losing it.
9. They was giving me ten thousand watts a day, you know, and I'm hot to trot! The next woman takes me on's gonna light up like a pinball machine and pay off in silver dollars!
10. Loach: What happened to your nose, Gittes? Somebody slammed a bedroom window on it?
Jake Gittes: (Jack Nicholson): Nope. Your wife got excited. She crossed her legs a little too quick. You understand what I mean, pal?
11. Where do they teach you to talk like this? In some Panama City "Sailor wanna hump-hump" bar, or is it getaway day and your last shot at his whiskey? Sell crazy someplace else, we're all stocked up here.
12. Where does he get those wonderful toys?
13. You want a job? I got a job for you. Fix up this pigsty! You get a pretty Goddammed good salary for testing out this bed all day! You want an extra fifty dollars a week, try vacuuming! You want an extra hundred, make this Goddammed bed! Try opening some Goddammed windows! That's why you can't stand up in here, the Goddammed place smells like a coffin!

I like # 1, 5, and 7, but 13 is my all time favorite. Another favorite quote by Jack is from Batman "Wait til they get a load of me". I can't wait for the movie. It's looks like it will be a lot of fun.
3 - A Few Good Men
5 - Terms of Endearment
6 - The Shining?
7 - As Good as It Gets?

When I saw your comment over at the 13 hub....first one I thought of was "Where does he get all those wonderful toys." You made my day. And I like "You want the truth?" "You can't handle the truth!!"
I didn't know I was suppose to give the name of the movie. I am so bad at this. I think # 10 is either from "Chinatown" or "The Two Jakes" and of course # 12 is from "Batman".
God I love that guy. What a great actor!! Love the list:) Happy TT.
THESE ARE GREAT! He's had some classic lines. What about that scene in A Few Good Men where he says "The truth! You can't handle the truth!"
Great TT Malcolm!
I can spot The Last Detail, The Shining and Batman.
You've stumped me, Malcolm. Not fair!
Some of these are great!
I believe #13 is from Carnal Knowledge, isn't it? I thought Jack was a little *too* convincing as that woman hater/abuser. Maybe that's why I've never been a fan, except for Reds. He was warm and dark and romantic in that one. (Thanks for visiting my TT)
Great list! I recognize some of the quotes, but not all. Can't wait for the movie to come out. Jack is always awesome. :D
Thanks for visiting! Happy TT!

I like the bread one from Five Easy Pieces - was it that one?

Yes, that's ol' Jack. You found some good ones. I can't place the movies, but I have come to know the voice.
Great quotes, but I couldn't identify a single film, not even the ones I've actually seen! reading some of them with no context...weird experience!
Mine: T13 #11 | Pictures from the Earth--"Closed for Winter"
Jack Nicholson's wonderful and he's had some pretty classic lines. I can place some of the wuotes with the movies they're from.
OHHH MALCOLM!! I so suck at these games - but I want to play - does that count at all?? I just can't ever remember movies. My husband was really sick for about two years and we watched movies - like 10 a weekend ever weekend - so he could rest. I just can't keep them straight!
Happy TT, though!
Pjazzy: When I was compiling this TT, I thought of you and that "Batman" line. By the way, you got 10 and 12 right.
Holly: You got 3, 5, and 6 right.
Hootin Anni: The "You can't handle the truth" line is definitely near the top of the list of most memorable movie quotes. Thanks for stopping by!
Lori and Barb: Thanks!
Nicholas: That quote from "The Last Detail" is one of my favorites. I recite that one quite a bit.
Susan: Will you be able to wait until Friday for the answers? lol
The Gal Herself: Good job, you got #13 correct! That's one movie that doesn't get shown a lot. I saw it years ago and would love to check it out again. I might have to break down and buy the DVD.
Nicole: "The Bucket List" does look promising. I'll more than likely wait for the DVD though.
S.J.: That scene from "Five Easy Pieces" is a classic. I love it when he tells the waitress to hold the chicken between her knees.
Sandy: I have to give credit to imdb.com for helping me with this
TT. They are a great source.
Damozel: You make a good point about reading these with no context. It's the same thing with music lyrics for me.
Candy: When I was putting together this list, I realized that I could have easily taken one of his films and found 13 good quotes.
Open Grove: The fact that you want to play has to count for something. I am glad that your husband is feeling better. I can see how it would be hard keeping all those movies straight. That's a lot of celluloid.
3 - A Few Good Men
6 - Witches of Eastwick?
I just introduced two teens to "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" tonight. Great timing for me to see some more of Jack!
Oooh I love him! The Shining is a fav of mine!
You know, I don't want to like Jack but I can't help it. My honey would laugh at this but I actually like Anger Management! lol...oh yeah, I used to watch American Movie Classics when it was a good cable channel. That is where I saw all those old movies. Now I just check them out from the library. Thanks for stopping by. Happy TT!
(and yeah - I think that woman NEEDED to be suspended re Tiger Woods).
Anyway, GREAT Jack list. He's cool, isn't he? I don't find him attractive but he IS sorta charming somehow...
Mick St. John! Alex O'Loughlin. Moonlight! (there I said it - LOL)
And thank you for visiting my TT-13!
Smiles,
Holly

What can I say... Jack is a GOD!!!! I normally partake in these little challenges, but today, I'm having a "Brain-of-Cheddar" day... so, in an effort NOT to embarrass myself, I'll wait until Friday! :)
"I'd be the happiest man alive if that did it for me." (I think I got that right.)

I think #13 is from Carnal Knowledge (spoken to Ann Margaret, if memory serves).
The Witches of Eastwick, The Shining and Batman were all I recognized. I obviously haven't seen enough Nicolson movies. LOL
~X
Robin: You got #3 right.
Zenmomma: "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" is a good intro to Jack. I hope the two teens enjoyed it.
Head Gaggler: I'm almost ashamed to admit that I have never seen "The Shining".
Michelle: Thanks for swinging by. Don't get me started on the decline of AMC. Damn, that was such a good channel.
Holly: I may actually watch the Golf Channel once Ms. Tilghman returns to see if she mentions the suspension. You can't get much cooler than Jack. I like how you worked in a reference to the TV hunk of your dreams. :-)
Samantha: I had forgotten all about the quote from #11 until I started putting together this list.
Michael T: Getting 11 out of 13 was fantastic! You just earned a spot at the head of the class.
Doubledeckerbusguy: I can relate to those "Brain of Cheddar" days. As long as they don't stretch into a week, I don't worry about it too much.
Your username reminds me of the old kids show "Here Come the Doubledeckers". Do you remember that one?
Calliope: I don't recognize the first quote you listed, but I think the second one is from "The Witches of Eastwick".
X. Dell: #13 is correct. I think you might be right about him saying that line to Ann-Margaret.
Xakara: Thanks for stopping by and participating. 3 out of 13 ain't bad. Don't tell Meat Loaf though.
Thanks to all of you who stopped by. Here are the answers:
1. Easy Rider (1969)
2. The Last Detail (1973)
3. A Few Good Men (1992)
4. The Witches of Eastwick (1987)
5. Terms of Endearment (1983)
6. The Shining (1980)
7. About Schmidt (2002)
8. Anger Management (2003)
9. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975)
10. Chinatown (1974)
11. As Good As It Gets (1997)
12. Batman (1989)
13. Carnal Knowledge (1971)
I just googled the whole list (I know it's cheating) to get the rest of the answers, only to find that other people had them all and you had already posted the answers! Oh well, it serves me right for cheating. LOL
Do another one of these soon!
www.mamapj.com
Holly: You cheated?! I'm surprised at you! Seriously, it's all good.
Thanks for the feedback regarding this quiz-related TT. I'll definitely be doing this again in the future.
