Mario Van Peebles Joins the Cast of All My Children

In a casting move that has me very intrigued, actor/writer/director Mario Van Peebles (New Jack City, Posse, Ali, etc.) is joining the ABC soap All My Children. Peebles has been cast as Samuel Woods, a U.S. District Attorney who runs for the Senate. As part of his bid to get elected, Woods appears on the Oprah-styled show "New Beginnings" hosted by Erica Kane (played by soap icon Susan Lucci). According to reports, sparks will fly between Woods and Kane which could lead to a possible romance.

Despite some of the comments I've read on ABC.com's message board, I feel that involving the vivacious Erica Kane in an interracial relationship would be an interesting proposition. At the very least, the rumored pairing of Erica and Samuel will shake things up in Pine Valley. Peebles makes his All My Children debut on Tuesday January 29th.

Isn't she a little old for him?

Jay: Wasn't that Mario's character in the movie "Heartbreak Ridge"? My favorite part was when he and the other recruits thought that they were getting rid of Clint Eastwood's character Gunny by having that gigantic private named Swede take him on in a fight. Gunny whupped the Swede's ass!

X. Dell: According to imdb.com, there is only a 10 year age difference between the two (Mario is 51 and Susan is 61). I don't think a 10 year age difference isn't bad at all, esp. when I think of all the leading men whose leading ladies were young enough to be their daughters.

As you know I just started back watching AMC last week because of the return of my beloved "Angie & Jesse". Not I have an even better reason the watch. This should be interesting, but then again Erika Kane has never met a man she didn't like. I thought Susan Lucci was much older than Van Peebles, but it's only ten years. YOU GO GIRL!

To me? I think Mario Van Peebles is the whole package - super cute, very smart, great great body, warm family, ambitious... Am I gushing? I could go on and on.

I met Steven J. Cannell and he talked about Mario's dad. What a great guy he must have been.

Pjazzy: I am really liking some of the recent moves that AMC has made. Your comment to X. Dell had me singing Aaliyah all morning. :-)

Open Grove: Yes, you are gushing... but it's OK. You should hear me go on about some of the people that I like. I had forgotten that Mario and Melvin's short-lived show "Sonny Spoon" was a Stephen J. Cannell production. I wouldn't mind seeing that again.

I didn't realize Van Peebles was that old.
