Final Results of Super Bowl Poll

Well, it appears that most of you who read this blog couldn't care less about football because 35% of you said in the recent Super Bowl poll that you don't even watch the game. Even if you don't watch, it would be nearly impossible to escape the news that The New York Giants upset the New England Patriots 17-14.

Had I voted, I would have selected the game itself as being my favorite part of the Super Bowl telecast. Because of the lack of offense in the first 3 quarters, the game was shaping up to be the most uneventful Super Bowl in history. However, 21 points were put on the board in the 4 quarter (including a game winning drive by The Giants that featured perhaps the best pass/catch in Super Bowl history). As for the Patriots' quest for a perfect season, it seemed that football fans were evenly divided as to whether or not they wanted to see them go 19 and 0. Personally, I wanted to see them do it for a variety of reasons:

a. It was a chance to see history being made
b. I like the Patriots, esp. Tom Brady (the U of M connection) and Randy Moss (an awesome football player who doesn't give a damn what the media or fans think of him)
c. It would finally shut up once and for all the 1972 Miami Dolphins (the only NFL team in the modern era to go undefeated for a season)

As for the Super Bowl commercials, they were lackluster for the most part. I felt as if me and my girlfriend were waiting for Godot because during many of the commercials; we kept looking for the "wow" factor in some of the ads that sadly they never came. It's not that the commercials were necessarily bad, you just expect the marketing gods/goddesses to come up with something spectacular for ads that will be airing on one of the most watched events of the year.

The Best:

The Diet Pepsi Max commercial that was a takeoff on the Roxbury Guys skit from SNL. The clincher was when one-half of the Roxbury Guys (Chris Kattan) shows up at the end and says "Stop it!" to 2 ladies who were bobbing their heads back and forth to "What Is Love" by Haddaway.

The Planters Cashews commercial that had guys mooning over an unattractive woman. Her secret: she dabbed cashews over her body like they were perfume. I might have walked through a plate glass window myself because I could probably eat cashews all day!

The T-Mobile Commercial starring Charles Barkley and Dwyane Wade. This ad was the conclusion of a series of spots that had Wade begging for Barkley to add him to his "Fave Five". The Super Bowl ad was a classic case of being careful what you wish for.

The Doritos ad that had a guy trying to catch a mouse by placing a dorito in a trap. He got more than he bargained for because a giant mouse busts through the wall and proceeds to beat the shit out of him. By sheer coincidence, my girlfriend and I were talking about those Sylvester the Cat cartoons where he would get beaten silly by a baby kangaroo that he mistook for a giant mouse.

The Worst:

The E-trade spot that had the talking baby spit up food at the end. I'm just glad that I wasn't eating when that commercial ran.

Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers' performance during halftime was solid, if not spectacular. They pretty much stuck to the studio versions of the 4 songs they performed, but I didn't mind because they did do two of my faves ("American Girl" and "Runnin' Down A Dream"). We were hoping that Stevie Nicks would make a surprise appearance and duet with Tom on "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around", but it wasn't meant to be. Oh yeah, I would be remiss if I didn't mention the very cool effect that had a large arrow headed straight for the illuminated heart-shaped stage right before Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers went into "American Girl".

Below are the results of the poll in which I asked you to name your favorite part of the Super Bowl telecast:

I Don't Watch the Super Bowl- 35%
The Commercials- 32%
The Game Itself- 29%
The Halftime Show- 2%

I forgot about Big Ben's AI commercial. I liked that one too! You sound like you might be a football fan... I had no idea.

If Eli's Coming, you know what to do... hide your heart girl!

I enjoyed quite a few of the ads...the ones you liked...and I liked the Thriller dancing lizards...i know it was probably lame in the big pic...but it was Thriller ...and lizards...

!!!!!

No?

What a game what a final quarter...i loved it and was probably the most fun and attention I've given a game in a long time...outside of hockey (hey I'm Canadian!)

(which reminds me are you following Snoop dog's Fatherhood show? He was trying to get more black people into hockey...good episode!)

I can imagine that even people who didn't like football..this game would have been a good introduction

On Regis this morning they said 96 mil watched...still doesn't beat record of 106 mil watching finale episode/series of M.A.S.H.

I was just about to do a post about how the Pepsi commercial was the best! That's the only one that made us laugh out loud.

The Audi one that referenced The Godfather was funny to me just b/c we finally sat down and watched that entire movie the day before. My dad let us borrow the trilogy set on DVD.

I guess after having 4 kids, projectile vomiting doesn't bother me anymore because I thought the commercial with the baby was great!

My other favorite was the dog training the clydesdale horse. I thought that was fun!

And...even though I rarely watch the game, I did see that touchdown pass at the very end! Unbelievable!!
