Good show as always. That was quite a bomb you dropped about Carly Simon. I researched it and found that she had made several quotes referencing the fact that her "mother" was Black. I was chatting with Clarence on the computer while listening to your show and he said "who cares". He went on to say that Carly Simon had "passed" all these years and now when her career is virtually over she comes out.
Now I get what he's saying, but on the other hand I really don't think she would not have had the big career she experienced because of the times in which her music came of age and the genre of the music itself. I was a fan, but not many others in my circle can name, much less have purchased her music.
In my opinion an admission of that magnitude in the late 60's, early 70's would have been very damaging.
I missed another goodie. Hopefully next week I will be able to tune in!
Yay you played Gordon! 2 weeks until his tickets go on sale. That's one show I'm really looking forward too. And you probably guessed that I love love love the EC song :) and The Grass Roots :)

I KNOW you are in my head for sure, the evidence is in the sheer number of favorites week after week on your playlists :)
This week, you blew me away with Barry (i can't get enough of your love baby) and Gordon.
Of course, you played some of my other faves: Modern Love, Parents Just Don't Understand, Temptation Eyes, You Haven't Done Nothin', The Look, The Fat Boys are Back, Ain't No Woman, and too bad i missed Funky Cold Medina.
So, next week is a short show? How are you ever going to pack it all in?

Pjazzy: If she had admitted being part Black back then, I wonder if she might have earned airplay on some R&B stations or a guest shot on "Soul Train". Hmm...

Mistress of the D: Oh yes, I know very well of your love for Declan MacManus and the Grass Roots. It had been awhile since I had played either of them.
Holly: Back when "Funky Cold Medina" was popular, there was a devious character named Gabrielle Medina. I always thought that ABC should have done some promos about her and used "Funky Cold Medina" as the theme song.
Dawn: Because of the time I spend in your head, you're not going to start charging me rent are you? When I do my normal three hours, it flies by so I know two hours will go by like a snap of my fingers.
Actually "You Belong To Me" was a big crossover hit and got plenty of airplay on the R&B stations. In fact that's what turned me on to her now that I think back.
Pjazzy: What I should have said was "more R&B airplay" instead of "some" because I had forgotten that I first heard "You Belong To Me" on the Flint R&B station when I was a kid. Although they played "You Belong To Me" quite a bit, I was surprised when I looked it up about a week ago and found that it never crossed over to hit the Billboard R&B charts.
