From Reuters - Kevin DuBrow, lead singer of the popular 1980s heavy metal band Quiet Riot, has been found dead from unknown causes at his home in Las Vegas, authorities said on Monday. DuBrow, 52, was found dead at about 5:20 p.m. on Sunday, a spokeswoman for the Clark County Coroner's Office said. She said an autopsy would be conducted to determine the cause of death.
When my good friend Amy emailed me the news just awhile ago, I was taken aback more than I expected to be. Although I wasn't familiar with many songs by Quiet Riot, I really liked the few that I did know ("Cum On Feel the Noize", "Bang Your Head (Metal Health)", "Mama Weer All Crazee Now", and "The Wild & the Young"). I guess Kevin's death affected me the way it did because it's like losing a part of my youth. Even today when I hear those tunes, I am magically transported back to my teenage years spent watching MTV in the basement of my house.
Below is the video for the song that made them famous... their 1983 remake of the Slade tune "Cum On Feel the Noize". This is one of those songs/videos that I never get tired of hearing/watching. The song and video are both reminders to me that Kevin Dubrow was a helluva heavy metal vocalist and frontman. "Girlz rock your boyz!!"
Holiday cheer.

i thought of you when i heard the news. good lookin' out on the part of your friend.
this has notabley saddened the usually spastic banter present in my office for the day (especially for those of us who tend to sing the lyrics 'bang your head' during moments of accute frustration).
do i hear a tribute on it's way for saturday's show?
Very sad. I saw the news myself and was a bit taken aback too....always a shock to lose someone so unexpectedly. I absolutely hate it when I have to update my "Gone But Not Forgotten" blog with a new name :(
Hey I didn't know who the group was, but I am definitely familiar with "Feel the Noise". It is sad to hear about someone so young passing away.
Sigh
Now the 80's artists are starting to take over the aretheystillalive arena.
My feedreader's been alive with the news and suddenly, I understand why XM radio was playing a ton of Quiet Riot earlier today. Wow.
I'm in shock. The music biz has taken a big hit lately (the guy from Decapitated comes to mind, and someone in a smaller band died today, too). Scary. Sad. All that talent...
I hope there's more to come. Talent that, is, not dead musicians.
Gurl With Glasses: Yes, Amy does a good job of keeping me informed. Is "Bang Your Head" the soundtrack to your office? lol
As for a tribute this Saturday, I'll keep you in suspense. :-)
Barbara: It's funny how certain news affects us. I was just thinking a few weeks ago that you hadn't updated your "Gone But Not Forgotten" blog lately.
Pjazzy: On one hand, 52 isn't that old. On the other, it's hard for me to believe how time flies and that many artists from the early/mid 80s are past 50... or fast approaching it.
Mistress of the D: I was thinking the same thing. I was similarly affected when Benjamin Orr of The Cars died in 2000 at the age of 53.
Susan: I always get somewhat nervous when I scan the radio dial and hear the same artist. Usu. it's just a coincidence. I seem to remember hearing about the death of the drummer of Decapitated in passing. I just checked Wikipedia and found that a Finnish punk rock singer by the name of Pete Malmi died on 11/24. I had never heard of him before.
I saw this on Yahoo earlier today. Very sad! 52 is young.
I feel the same way you do...that band is nostalgic to me. I hear their music and I am in neon clothes with big hair. Yes, I was a major mall babe! :)

That brings back a lot of memories. Back in the day, you couldn't get away from this song and/or video if you wanted to.
Well, one more rocker dead before his time. Seems like unknown causes are an occupational hazard.
Jessica: Do you care to post any pics of you with big hair/neon clothes? I'd love to see some.
X. Dell: You are right about "Cum On Feel the Noize" being everywhere back when it was out. Ah, the good old days when MTV actually played music videos on a regular basis. I am interested to hear what the forensics tests uncover in regards to Kevin's cause of death.
I only knew "Feel the Noize" but I did like that song. How sad.
Holly: If you are interested in hearing "Bang Your Head (Metal Health)", let me know and I can send you the mp3.
