Top 5 On Friday - Week 174
BTW a happy Mother's Day to all the mothers, grandmothers and godmothers out there!
1. Minnie the Moocher by Cab Calloway- I remember my mother telling me a story of when she saw him perform live during his heyday and he would shake his hair and it would fall back into place perfectly.
2. The Thrill Is Gone by B.B. King
3. Dancing Machine by The Jackson Five- My mother loved to watch one of her grandsons do "The Robot" (the dance that Michael Jackson did to this song)
4. How Sweet It Is To Be Loved By You by Marvin Gaye- If he wasn't my mother's favorite singer, he was near the top of the list.
5. What You Won't Do For Love by Bobby Caldwell
Below is a clip of the legendary Cab Calloway in action.

Oh have you heard Oingo Boingo's version of Minnie The Moocher. They usually did it live. That's such a great song :)
Thanks for playing this week :)
Ahh, so that's where you get your love and great taste in music (smile). Nice list and neat idea.
Cool list. I agree about Marvin Gaye probably being Mama's favorite. She also use to love her some B. B. and Bobby "Blue" Bland too! Everytime I hear "I Pity the Fool" I think about her and Aunt Berta sitting around on a Saturday afternoon listening to those down home blue, but I digress...
Mistress of the D: I wasn't aware that Oingo Boingo did a version of Minnie the Moocher. However, I went to You Tube and found a clip of them performing it. They did a pretty good job. Here is the link:

Lori: Thank you. Yes, my mother and some of my other older relatives were very instrumental in my musical education.
Pjazzy: Thanks! Doing this post did brink back some good memories of ma. You could tell if she really liked a song because she would pat her foot and clap her hands to the beat.
I'm glad you explained the Minnie the Moocher comment. I had something else in mind when you said it reminded you of your mom.
Great list, and love Cab Calloway.
