Ah fantastic choices!!
*boogies to "Car Wash" in her head*
Oh Working In A Coalmine! That's a good one :) My answers are up now :)
Wow, so many great work songs.
"Chain Gang" by Sam Cooke (notice a theme, lately).
"Nine-to-Five" by Dolly Parton.
"Wichita Lineman" by Glen Campbell, Johnny Cash and others.
"Taking Care of Business" by BTO (as a musician myself, I really have to put that one up--along the same line I could have said "Piano Man" by Billy Joel, since I've done that for a living too).
Of course, to me, the ultimate work song would be "John Henry" (traditional).
Still, these are fun choices. I have recordings of all of them....somewhere around here.
Almost forgot, "Manic Monday" by the Bangles.
Carwash is such a classic. All these years letter it still makes you smile and get moving.
x.dell I love Manic Monday by The Bangles. 9-5 is a great song, too.
I'd toss in:
"Working For a Livin'," Huey Lewis and the News
"Taking Care of Business," BTO
"Working for the Weekend," Loverboy
"Take This Job and Shove It," Johnny Paycheck
"Keep on Working," Pete Townshend
"Working Man," Rush
Wow, I thought I was being a little obscure with the Croce song, but NO! Great stuff. And, hey, I was just AT the car wash!
These were great songs. "Working Day and Night" by MJ came to mind. I also thought about "Chain Gang" and "Work to Do" by The Isley Brothers.
Polly: I've got "Car Wash" playing in my head... I feel like watching the movie now.
Mistress of the D: I love the instrumentation/sound effects they used on Working In A Coalmine. Another oldie that deserves more airplay.
X. Dell: "Wichita Lineman" is a good one. That song takes me back to the time when I worked weekend mornings at an AM station in Owosso, MI. That was one of the songs on our playlist.
Samara: If there is someone out there who doesn't move to the sounds of "Car Wash", they better have their pulse checked. Thanks for stopping by.
David: I almost included "Working For a Livin'" and "Working for the Weekend" on my list.
Natsthename: We have to watch out for those "Working At the Car Wash Blues". There is nothing that's more steadily depressing, lowdown, mind messing than that.
Pjazzy: Those were some good choices. I remember that Vanessa Williams did a pretty good remake of "Work To Do" in the early 90s.
