Thursday Thirteen #43: Cold Cereal Mascots

Cold Cereal Mascots

As a kid and even as an adult, I have often enjoyed a bowl of sugar-coated cold cereal. I don't know about you, but I loved drinking the sugar-sweetened milk that was left over after all the cereal was gone. Along with what was inside the box, the cereal mascots could be big selling points. Below (in alphabetical order by character name) are some of the cold cereal mascots from over the years. In the comments section, feel free to list your favorite mascot and/or cold cereal.

1. Big Yella

2. Boo Berry

3. Buzz the Honey Bee

4. Cap'n Crunch

5. Cookie Jarvis

6. Dig 'Em Frog

7. Lucky the Leprechaun

8. Snap, Crackle, and Pop- Yes, I know that this trio brings the list of cereal mascots to 15; but can you really list one without listing the other two?

9. Sonny the Cuckoo Bird

10. Sugar Bear

11. Tony the Tiger

12. Toucan Sam

13. Trix the Rabbit

Man, I use to hate that silly rabbit. I still eat Lucky Charms and Fruit Loops every once in a while. I have some Rice Krispies in my pantry right now. Cool list.

Oh ya baby!! Sugar Smacks!!! I used to eat those like candy. But my kitty kat always got the milk.

My T-13 is shared. Drop by and help me list MORE!

I forgot about the Cowboy in the Pop Cereal!

Man! That brought back a lot of memories. I think I ate everyone of these brands at least once in my lifetime! :)

Man, if my parents had known that Cookie dude's name was Jarvis maybe they woulda let me have those back in the day. The closest I got to sugary cereal was Frosted Flakes.

Boo Berry!!!! I LOVED that character, not the awful tasting cereal, but the cartoon character lol!

Fun TT List! :)

I used to love going to my aunt's house to spend the night b/c she always had the cool cereals. My mom was all worried about healthy stuff, blah blah.

My faves were Cap'n Crunch and Dig 'Em Frog. But I have to admit that I'd never even heard of Cookie Jarvis. I've actually eaten more Honey Nut Cheerios than any other cereal on this list....and now I'm officially hungry for some!

I remember Boo Berry. Happy TT.

I was never a big cereal fan, but I remember some of those. Happy TT.

Do they still make some of these? Boo Berry? Cookie Crisp? If so, there oughta be a law (LOL). I must admit, I liked the silly rabbit, snap, crackle and pop and Tony the Tiger.

Oh, good. I'm not the only one who's remembering not just the mascots but the look of things!

Gosh... we weren't allowed to eat these cereals as kids and we didn't watch TV. That said, I do know that Juice, toast and Trix make a nutritious meal! ;)

You have great lists, Malcolm!

Happy TT

Wow. Some of those are really old. I didn't even know about some of them, but I am fairly young.

I used to LOVE BooBerrys. Great list! Happy TT!

I liked Franken Berry. I still will buy boxes of it when it's around.

Happy T13!

I'm a sucker for this kind of list. And I liked Froot Loops for the color, but Sugar Smacks for the taste.

Fun list! We rarely buy the name brand cereals...but most of those are recognizable anyway.

I'm a fruit loops kinda gal. Happy TT.

Fun list Malcom. My mom never bought those when I was a kid so of course I always wanted them! Happy TT!

Cool list! I like all of these, but as a kid they ere off limits. :P

I loved that "Dig Em" Frog! Totally forgot about him till this moment. Growing up sucks, doesn't it? (Thanks for visiting my TT -- and early, too!)

I never knew about the mascot for Sugar Pops and I liked them a lot as a kid (even though my parents didn't buy them much). What an interesting list.

Happy TT!

Darn. Now I can't remember who went with the honeycomb hideout. Hmmm...

Anyway, I adored Captain Crunch, but I had to use my own money to buy the cereal. My parents were way into the healty cereal thing.

What? No Quisp? No Quake? To me, these were the epitmoe of cereal mascots, for there was no difference between the two cereals (discounting the shapes).

This one brought back some terrific cereal memories from childhood. I remember when cereals were not afraid to use the word "sugar" in their names--sugar crisp, sugar smacks! :)

My all-time favorite was Lucky Charms. Still love Peanut Butter Cap'n Crunch, but boy can it shred the roof of your mouth!

The Mistress of the Dark said...

Sugar Smacks! They tasted better when that was their name. Super Golden Crisp is just not the same. And I loved Sugar Bear :)

Pjazzy: Like we talked about on the phone earlier, it would be funny if someone made a spoof of the Trix commercials where Trix the Rabbit finally got to taste it... but found it to be terrible.

Hootin' Anni: I recall eating some of those sugar coated cereals dry too.

Chelle Y: Until I came up with this idea a few months ago, it had been years since I had thought of Big Yella.

Thembi: Cookie Crisp was one of the best! I didn't even know they still made it until I looked it up on Wikipedia. It's almost 4 AM, but I am tempted to go out and buy a box and some chocolate milk.

Sue: I wasn't too crazy about the cereal either. I think my mother bought it for me once and I never asked for it again.

Holly: It sounds like your tummy is tempted by the taste of nuts and honey.

Pussreboots and Kay: Thanks for stopping by.

Lori (of the Old School Mix): Since I pay little attention to the sugar coated cereals when I go grocery shopping, I wasn't aware that they still made Cookie Crisp and Boo Berry until I looked it up on Wikipedia. Apparently, Boo Berry isn't widely carried anymore; but it does show up around Halloween.

Susan: Like the MJ song goes, "you are not alone".

Open Grove Claudia: I don't know if I would have survived childhood without those cereals and TV, lol. Thanks for the positive comments about my T 13s.

Cordia: Wow, Cookie Crisp is 4 years older than you, lol.

Colleen: I liked the commercials for Boo Berry better than the cereal itself, lol.

Lori: I had Count Chocula on my list, but I gave him the boot in favor of Tony the Tiger. I loved Count Chocula too... chocolate and marshmallows, man!

Journeywoman: I gotta tell you that reading the comments left by you and others is giving me a strong craving for some sugar coated cereal.

Adelle: I remember Nesquick, but I never had it.

Beth: Although I liked them both, Froot Loops has the edge. I can almost taste that sugary milk right now.

Laura: Thanks for visiting.

Sandy M: I have to go the grocery store to mail something to a customer. I better make sure I eat first. Otherwise, I will probably head straight to the cold cereal section.

Jessica: That's one of the advantages of being an adult; we don't have to worry about our parents telling us we can't have this or that.

The Gal Herself: Do you remember the catchphrase from the Sugar Smacks commercials? "Give me a smack and I'll smack you back". Here is the link to one of the commercials:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8AE0y4WpWY

Denise: Despite his name, the mascot for Sugar Pops wasn't as big as some of the others on the list.

Calliope: "The Honeycomb Kid" was the name of the character for Honeycomb cereal. When I was a kid, I wanted to live in the Honeycomb Hideout.

X. Dell: Sorry, but no on both counts. Quisp the Alien actually made the first cut, but I passed him over in favor of Dig 'Em Frog because the latter made more of an impact on me.

Cindy: I think it's a bit silly that our society has made sugar a dirty word. I never ate Peanut Butter Cap'n Crunch for which the roof of my mouth is eternally grateful.

Mistress of the D: Super Golden Crisp?! Is that what they are calling Sugar Smacks now?

Holly Smith said...

hehe - good one.

I sometimes find myself singing "Cuz...nobody can so no, to the honey nut ohs, in honey nut Cameron toes" ...but he usually just gets annoyed by my singing.

Malcolm said...

Holly: I thought you might like my little joke. I hope that Cameron doesn't show his disapproval at your vocal stylings by throwing cereal at you.
