Picture it, the blogosphere 2007... in the recent Golden Girls poll, the mother/daughter team of Sophia Petrillo and Dorothy Zbornak were voted as your favorite characters on the series. Both each received 28% of the vote. In a two-way tie for 2nd place, Blanche Devereaux and Rose Nylund each received 21% of the vote. Blanche surprisingly didn't receive a lot of voter love early on, but then made a push about midway through.
Below is a clip from the 1986 episode "Isn't It Romantic". This is the one where Dorothy's lesbian friend Jean (played by Lois Nettleton) develops a crush on Rose.

I love that! "Picture it...Sicily...1934..." I love the Golden Girls. Sophia clearly made the show. But I can accept a tie with Dorothy....
Holly: I intended to break the tie myself. However, I kept going back and forth between Sophia and Dorothy. Also, I was having a helluva time finding a suitable Golden Girls clip to post on my blog. Most of the clips were either too long, too short, poor quality, etc.
It was getting late when I said "screw it" and went to sleep. As a result, I forgot to vote before the poll closed. I probably could have re-posted the poll and re-entered the votes, but it wasn't that serious.
Choosing between Dorothy and Sophia was very hard for me. I actually considered using a scientific method (flipping a coin) to decide.
I've liked a number of Susan Harris' productions, including The Golden Girls. It was well-cast too.
I love all of the "Golden Girls" and was an avid show fan of the show. All four leads clearly brought something significant and special to the show. I chose Dorothy because in my opinion she was the sanity among the insanity and she played an instrumental role in holding the show together. After she left the show, the other three tried to go on in a show called "The Golden Palace"...I rest my case.
Haha, I always liked the Golden Girls. I didn't watch it enough to remember the characters names, so I didn't vote :-(
