Final Results of the Recent Upcoming Movie Poll

In yet another landslide, "Sex and the City: the Movie" was voted the most likely to be the biggest hit out of the summer 2008 films based on TV series. Because of all the buzz that it's received, I am inclined to agree. However, I also wonder if this might be one of those TV adaptations that loses something in the jump to the big screen and that fans might wait until it hits DVD to play catch up with Carrie Bradshaw and the rest of the gang.

Coming in 2nd is the big screen version of "Speed Racer". This is one that has been in development for years. To give you an idea of how long, at one time Johnny Depp was rumored to be under consideration for the title role. I did see the trailer for "Speed Racer" a few weeks ago and it looked pretty good. Since it opens on May 9th (a week after "Iron Man"), it remains to be seen whether or not it can lure any of that film's potential ticket buyers away. It better hope that it can make a sizable dent because two weeks after "Speed Racer" opens, a little film called "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" hits theaters.

The Untitled X-Files sequel came in 3rd place in the poll. There is an overwhelming feeling among X-Philes that the series went on at least 2 seasons too long. It will be interesting to see if this feeling has any effect on the box-office turnout.

Rounding out the list is the theatrical version of "Get Smart" starring Steve Carell as Maxwell Smart and Anne Hathaway as Agent 99. Because I am a huge fan of the original series, I am skeptical about the movie adaptation. There are some aspects that I've heard have been changed that I didn't think were necessary. However, I do like the casting so maybe they will do Don Adams and Co. proud.

Here are the final results:

Sex and the City: the Movie- 52%
Speed Racer- 19%
Untitled X-Files sequel- 16%
Get Smart- 11%

I think it may lose something in the big screen, but I also think the fans will still go just to see what's been happening supposedly with the gals. I know I'd like to see it!

I was never a fan, but I know a lot of people who were, including Clarence. I know he will be there to see it.
